Touristic itineraries Monte d'Accoddi

The ziqqurat-shaped temple rises up in Ottava, an area in the Monte d’Accoddi that is very rich in archaeological marks. It is a precious proof of a well developed civilization in Sardinia before the “nuraghi” were built: the terrace altar indeed dates back to the cultures of Ozieri, Filigosa and Abealzu, between the Recent Neolithic and the Copper Age. It is a unique site within the Western Mediterranean. It was a holy place, a sanctuary venerated by faithful from across Sardinia with rituals related to the worship of divinities: the ceremonial ramp for entering the altar represented the rise to God, in the human being’s effort to get closer to the heaven and to know its unintelligible mysteries.
